Business Outstanders

I am honoured to be included in Business Outstanders' profile of 11 women business leaders transforming business globally alongside founders, strategists, and operators from across the UAE, Europe, Australia, and the US, each doing work that is genuinely changing their sector.

The feature highlights my work at Sotera, the InsurTech company I founded within Lloyd's of London. Sotera applies data modelling and risk analytics to the insurance of fine art, rare collections, and cultural assets, a corner of the market that most InsurTech companies overlook entirely, and one where the stakes are uniquely high. These are often irreplaceable objects.

“Preservation and innovation are not in conflict. Good stewardship is what makes good innovation possible.”
— Elizabeth Marston, Founder, Sotera · Business Outstanders

My academic background, a BA in Classical Studies, an MA in Classical Archaeology, and an MPhil in Egyptology from Cambridge, is not separate from the work I do at Sotera. It is foundational to it. Understanding what cultural objects signify is inseparable from understanding what they are worth and what it means to protect them properly.

The piece also touches on Marston Family Vineyard, a multi-generational estate in Napa Valley that I have managed for over 20 years. That experience of stewarding a legacy business with a long-term horizon directly shapes how I think about building Sotera and how I mentor next-generation founders.

It is a privilege to be recognised alongside leaders doing work that matters, across sectors from data privacy and aerial mobility to food manufacturing and executive coaching. What links us, as the article puts it, is straightforward: we deliver results, and we lead clearly.
